The Reading Mines Water System which originally served 36 residences and businesses was acquired by STMA in 2005. Through a CDBG grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development administered by the Redevelopment Authority of Somerset County, the distribution system was rebuilt saving thousands of gallons of water per day. In 2008, a transmission line was built to Stoystown Borough to supply water to an additional 150 customers in the Borough. The water source for Reading Mines/Stoystown is a deep well located in the Village of Reading Mines, Quemahoning Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
