The SCI - Somerset Sewage Treatment Plant was originally constructed in 1992 to serve the State Correctional Institute at Somerset. In addition to the prison, a short collection system extension was constructed to the neighboring municipality of Brothersvalley Township for the Eagle Ridge Development. The design capcity of the Plant is 0.420 MGD. In 2002, the original lagoon sewage treatment plant was abandoned and an oxidation ditch activated sludge process replaced it. In 2013, 54 homes along Berlin Plank Road and Garrett Shortcut Road were added to SCI - Somerset Sewage Treatment Plant's service area.
